Club President Lydia Biskup welcomed everyone and turned the event over to Sheriff Butch Anderson. The Sheriff’s color guard presented for the pledge and the national anthem. Lydia Biskup and Sue Salem were sworn in as officers of the club.
Guest speaker Assemblyman Marcus Molinaro inspired us to move the Republican Party forward. Co-chairs for the evening event Linda Bauer and Karen Johnson thanked him with a gift. Dignitaries were introduced and citations were presented to Ann Richer for her PWRC Woman of the Year Award. Councilman Thomas Martinelli introduced Ann Richer to receive her award. Flowers and a bracelet were presented to her.
The basket raffle and the 50/50 drawing finished the evening.
Sweatshirts with the PRWC logo on them are available to purchase by members for $25.00.
The club raised over $1000.00 at a Heart Walk event. Congratulations to all who attended and walked the walk.
The officers and members of The Poughkeepsie Women’s Republican Club want to thank everyone who took part in the success of the Yard Sale. The money raised will help our candidates this fall. A HUGE thank you to Peg Tavarez for opening her home for the event.
The nominating committee for club officers announced at the August meeting that club member Wendy Hatch has offered to take the position of Recording/Corresponding Secretary. All other officers have agreed to serve nother term.
President Lydia Biskup has reported that reaching out and sending notices and pictures to the NYSFRW has helped the club in the area, and women have been contacting them as a result of our listing in the NYS mailings.
The club announces with pleasure that we will be honoring Joan Pagones as our Woman of the Year at our 2010 Installatin Dinner in January.
New member Amy Bombardieri, member of the Poughkeepsie GOP Committee was welcomed in August. Also at the August meeting an auction was held to raise funds for ’Frankie Flora’, the 5 year old boy who was attacked by a relative’s pit bull dog. Thank you to the auctioneer Chris Baiano along with Susan Baiano and Katland Sheehan who helped display the items.
A huge thank you is expressed to all who participated and supported the fundraiser held this past Sunday, October 4th at The Horton House in Wappinger Falls http://hortonhousefamilycenter.com/. A special thanks to Gwen Brenner and Suzanne Turetzky who worked the phones. Heather Kitchens, Brad Kendal, Angela Flesling, Peter Forman and Joel Miller where elected officials attending the afternoon tea and tour of The Horton House that included three opera pieces sung by home owners/host John Vergilii - who was joined for one tune by his wife Cynthia. It was a lovely afternoon that did very well for us as a fund raiser, clearing a little over $600. This was an event we surely would like to repeat next fall.

Poughkeepsie
Women at the
NYSFRW Conference
in April 2009
The Club’s October Meeting was a candidates’ night. Topics discussed were budgets and quality of life in Poughkeepsie. Candidates speaking were: Tod Tancredi (Councilman 6th ward), Rob Bollison (County Legislator - district 8), Angelo Flesland (County Legislator - district 6), Jon Baisley (Councilman 1st Ward, Sue Miller (Town Clerk) and Marc Pfeifer (Highway Superintendent). All candidates expressed the need for our club to get involved in get out the vote efforts and urged us to do our part with phone banks and any other tasks candidates may contact us for.
Also, please remember to collect items for the Holiday Auction to take place at the December Pot Luck Holiday Meeting.
New member Marland Berghorn was welcomed at the November meeting. Club President Lydia Biskup reported that she received many phone calls thanking PWRC for the many members who helped with phone banks and in other ways during the last election. Our contributions always help. Many wonderful charities were nominated to benefit from our Holiday Auction and members voted to send half the funds collected to Dutchess Outreach and the other half will be used to benefit candidates. We are considering hiring a graphic artist to creat a club logo for the club.
Annual Holiday Pot Luck and Auction
Twas’ the night of the pot luck and the members brought gifts,
For an auction to help those, as Dutchess Outreach uplifts.
The food was displayed and fresh coffee was flowing.
The wine was opened and the bids would keep growing.
Chris B. made us laugh, with his auctioneer style,
And Susan B. held items, with an infectious smile.
John Flowers wore booties, a twenty dollar bet.
His prancing in them, we will never forget.
Local politicians attended, spouses were there,
laughter was loud with smiles to share.
Terry and John sipped drinks and sat close,
while Susan W.H. played the part of the host.
Lydia won the bid on pink snuggle blanket sweater,
A gift for her husband, the color blue would be better?
Good food and good friends for a very good cause,
We all were felling like a little Santa Clause.
GOP ringing as we all said goodnight,
“Twas’ a good local year folks, keep up the good fight!”
Club Members Attention!
Dues are due by January 2010.
Please get them in early.
