The History of the NYSFRW!

The New York State Federation of Republican Women encompasses all 62 Counties, informing and involving Republican women, and providing grassroots support of the Republican Party, its candidates and electeds throughout the state. Many of our members are candidates and electeds, most receiving their political knowledge and experience through their involvement in federated Clubs.

While the New York State Federation of Republican Women has been so named since 1937, its roots reach back to May 1919 when the New York State Party Chairman called a meeting of 19 women representing different parts of the state to form the Republican Women’s State Executive Committee . In 1929, the name was changed to the Republican Educational League. The stated objective was:

"To unite all Republican women for work in general for the Party."

With a goal of working for and supporting responsible leadership in its great state and nation, the New York State Federation currently has 24 clubs.

A New York State Federation Woman of the Year Award is offered most years. It is named in honor of Henrietta Wells Livermore, the first vice chair of the New York Republican State Committee. She gained her political initiation in the suffrage movement pre-dating the vote.

The New York State Federation of Republican Women advocates crucial issues to positively impact our nation, strengthen our Republican Party through recruiting and training candidates, and empower women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds in the political process. We believe our strength comes from diversity of opinion, experience and culture.
